My best memories from the show
As we kick off our eighth season of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, I’m reminded of all the incredible families and stories I have encountered over the last seven years and the more than 150 homes.
There are so many great memories, but from a design standpoint, one show I’ll never forget is the time I built a [...]
10-second tip: Tell a story with your design
As I have said before, good design tells a story and I always encourage people to have something in their home decor and design that reflect what’s important to them. In this bedroom from an Extreme Makeover episode, I made the headboard, lamps and ladder out of branches indigenous to Arizona. It was a way [...]
Good design tells a story
Good design tells a story and when I create for others, I try to relate what’s happening in their lives and what’s important to them in their spaces. I certainly encourage DIY designers to try for this personalization, too. This Extreme Makeover bedroom was for a woman who’s living by a new set of rules [...]
Contest winner joins Extreme team
This week I’ve had a special guest helping me with my special project as part of the Lutz family’s extreme makeover in East Setauket, New York. Brandy Ford (on the right with her friend Adrienne Bowen), from Ashtabula, Ohio, was the winner of Market Place Events‘ “Visit the Set of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” contest. [...]
Mineola says “Move that bus!”
Great crowd today in East Texas as we welcomed the Carr family back and showed them their new home for the first time. Thanks to all the volunteers and the builders for a incredible week of effort and working together. I think these photos show what makes EMHE a pretty special experience for everyone involved.
Welcome home, Williams family!
It was an eventful last few days in Pine Mountain, Ga. On Friday, we showed Coach Williams the new field house at the high school and on Saturday, we welcomed the family back and introduced them to their new energy-efficient home!
Blue troops marching in Mineola
These are pictures from yesterday when our local builder and volunteers march in to meet the homeowners. Here’s some of what Gary Bayless and the folks at Bayless Custom Homes have said about this week and helping the Carr family: “This is about showing America the heart and soul of East Texas and we challenge [...]
Big surprise in East Texas
Today, we got to surprise the Carr family of Mineola, Texas. Katrina and Mike Carr display remarkable spirit and optimism in the face of some real challenges. Along with raising the four children they adopted from Kazakhstan, Mike’s poor health has required pancreas and kidney transplants in recent years.
Their small home is also not a good [...]
Family vacation time for the Williams
Most of you know that while all the volunteers, builders and EMHE team work on constructing a brand new house, the family heads out of town on vacation. However, with the special needs of Jeremy and Jacob, we needed to be a bit more selective than is often the case. For this family, we chose the [...]
Just a boy on the roof
Or what’s left of the roof. Charles took a lot of photographs in Georgia yesterday! And I got to wear a helmet instead of a hard hat.
